Where To Find Gluten-free Foods On A Budget
Like most people, when the diagnosis of celiac disease, had many questions. My doctor told me I needed a gluten-free diet. I had never heard of gluten. I wondered: "What is gluten?" Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley (mainly oats) and rye. Gluten is found in foods American public. I asked how he would be able to adapt to this new continuous change, continuous financially.
Eventually, I learned to eat gluten-free on a budget.
What can you do?
Look at the local level first. Check your local grocery store. Look in the alleys organic or low-carb section. You may be pleasantly surprised! Many grocery stores have become aware of the special food marketing as a viable niche.
Go talk to General Manager of the food mart. Tell this person what you need. Many are ready to order food to get your business.
The health food stores. Often these stores are not chain / franchise stores, but privately owned, you can develop a relationship with. Make sure to buy in bulk / in case of price reductions. Your business is important to them. Again, tell the owner or manager exactly what you need. Be specific. Ask about volume discounts. Shop around until you are satisfied with the price and product.
The on-line purchase. When you buy online, pay transportation costs for food. This increases the price! Find online sources that offer self-ship option or mix of processed foods. This is usually associated with a reduced price or free shipping. If not, keep looking.
Other options: Eat plenty of unskilled as possible and grind their own flour and make your own GF bread. Remember, fruits, vegetables, rice, potatoes, plain meat and dairy products are safe. This keeps your budget on food specialty GF attacker.
